Founder of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
Immigrated to Pennsylvania (c. 1726). Founded the town of Chambersburg (1730); built a saw-mill and grist-mill. Traveled to England to testify on behalf of the Penns in the Pennsylvania-Maryland boundary dispute.
Scots-Irish. Married twice; had issue.
