Hay, John, Jr.

Prospective immigrant.

One of a group of thirty-four Belfast Protestants, led by merchant Jesse Taylor, who sought to immigrate to Pennsylvania in 1779. Traveled to Passy to secure a passport for himself and the other immigrants from Franklin (July 1779). There was considerable sympathy for the American cause in Belfast; Hay drew a parallel between the civil war in America and the civil war that he feared was imminent in Ireland.
