Lieutenant (1768) and captain of engineers (1777) in the French service. Major in the American service (1777); rose to rank of brigadier general (1783). Returned to French service at the close of the war. Chevalier de Saint-Louis (1784).

Son of Jean-Baptiste and Marie Marguerite (Lorteau de Lermilière) de Laumoy. Married Agathe Louise Bocquet de Chanterenne (1803).
