Wealthy and successful merchant; traded with East Indies. Contributed to the Pennsylvania Hospital (1754). Built Morris House on the Germantown Road (1772).

Son of aide-de-camp to the Prince of Baden and nephew of John and Caspar Wister (Wistar). Married Mary Lefevre.
