Member of Parliament for St. Germans (1748-68, 1774-75), Liskeard (1768-74), and Cornwall (1775-84). Receiver general of the Duchy of Cornwall (1749-1804). Lord of Trade (1759-76).

Son of Richard and Harriet Eliot. Educated at St. Mary Hall, Oxford. Married Catherine Elliston in 1756; four sons. Created Baron Eliot (1784).
