Entered the French service (1744). Rose steadily to the rank of brigadier (1778). Served in Rochambeau’s army as maréchal général de logis (March 1780) and maréchal de camp (December 1781). Returned to France (1783) and retired from active service.

Son of François and Edmée (Chapolin) Béville of Paris. Married Anne-Charlotte Chéron. Ennobled (1779).
