First mate of the Andrea Doria (1776). Lieutenant of the Hornet (February 1777). Captured by the British (April 1777) and committed to Forton Prison (October 1777); escaped (November 1777). Possibly wrote to Franklin under the alias “John Webb” (December 1777).
