Burnell, John

Maryland privateer.

Master’s mate, master, and then second lieutentant of the Defence (1776). Commander of the schooner Montgomery (April 1777); took two or more prize ships, including the Good Intent and the Cherbourg. Captured by the British and confined in Mill Prison (June 1777).

Resided in Baltimore. Said to be English- born, with family living in England.
