Polignac, Jules-François-Armand, duc de (1745-1817)

French courtier.

Premier écuyer de la reine (1776). Superintendent of the postal service (1782). He owed most of his distinctions to his wife, a favorite of Marie Antoinette. Emigrated (1789); represented the deposed king’s brothers at the court of Vienna. Later settled in Russia, where he received a land grant from Catherine II.

Son of Louis-Melchior-Armand, marquis de Polignac, and Marie-Zéphirine Mazarini- Mancini. Married Yolande-Martine-Gabrielle de Polastron (1767). Created duc de Polignac (1780).
