Collector of books. Chaplain and librarian to the duc de Deux-Ponts.

Member of Madame Helvétius’ circle. Charged with preparing the late Helvétius’ manuscripts for publication. Worked and lived in a pavilion on the grounds at Auteuil.

Became a close friend of Franklin. Published his “Note sur Franklin” (1790) shortly after Franklin’s death.
