Son of Franklin’s friend, Phineas Bond, the prominent Philadelphia physician. Nephew of Thomas Bond.

Graduated from the College of Pennsylvania (1766). Studied for the bar. Went to England to complete his studies (1770). Returned to America (1773), and became a Loyalist. Left for England (1778). British consul for the Middle Atlantic States (1786-1812).
