Tucker, Henry (1713-1787)

Prominent resident of Bermuda.

Colonel of militia. Organized negotiations between Bermuda and the rebellious American colonies. Headed Bermuda delegation to U.S. Congress (July 1775). Struck a deal with Franklin whereby the islanders would seize gunpowder from the royal magazine at St. George and ship it to Congress in return for exemption from the American embargo.

Son of Henry Tucker and his American- born wife Frances Tudor. Married Anne Butterfield; six children.
