Held several public offices in Massachusetts including provincial secretary and lieutenant governor (1771-74).
Stamp-officer (1765). An anti-Stamp Act mob hanged him in effigy and ransacked his house.
Several letters from Oliver appear among the Hutchinson Letters.
Born in Boston. Married in 1728 to Mary Fitch; in 1734 to Mary Sanford. Had issue by both marriages.
