Temple, Elizabeth Bowdoin (b. c. 1749)

Wife of John Temple.

Daughter of James and Elizabeth (Erving) Bowdoin; her father, a Boston merchant and legislator, was a close friend of Franklin. Married John Temple (later Sir John Temple, Baronet), a customs commissioner (1767). Resided in England (c. 1774-78), then returned to Boston; resided in New York while Temple served as British consul to the United States (1785-98). Moved to Boston after her husband’s death. Several children.
