French astronomer.

Traveled to Africa (1768), America (1768), and Italy (1775). Adjoint astronome of the Académie des sciences (1770). Directory of the Royal Observatory of Paris (1784). Imprisoned during the Revolution; senator and comte de l’empire under Napoleon. Finished the map of France begun by his father and helped divide France into départements.

Son of César-François and Charlotte (Drouin de Vandeuil) Cassini de Thury. Married Claude-Marie-Louise de La Myre- Mory (1773). Also called “Jacques-Dominique de Cassini.”
