Member of the Pennsylvania Assembly from Philadelphia County (1765-71). Member of the Committee of Correspondence. Owner of a grist mill on Wissahickon Creek, said to be the largest in the colonies. An amateur vintner, he sent bottles of his wine to Franklin in London (1767).
