Native of La Rochelle. Worked for twelve years as English interpreter and senior clerk of the admiralty on the islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon.

An American enthusiast, he left the islands shortly after they were captured by the British. Courtier-interprète to the admiralty of La Rochelle (1779). Returned to St. Pierre and Miquelon, where he resumed his former duties (1783).
