Queen of France (1774-92).

Daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Francis i and Maria Theresa. Married Louis, dauphin of France (1770); he succeeded to the throne as Louis xvi in 1774. Three children, including the dauphin Louis-Joseph-Xavier-François, whose birth occasioned a letter of congratulation from Franklin. Executed in the French Revolution.
