The Pennsylvania Supreme Executive Council dispatched Craig and his men to help quell the violence which had erupted in Luzerne County between Pennsylvania and Connecticut settlers there.

In a 1778 letter to Franklin, Jonathan Williams, Jr. recommended a Mr. Craig; he may have been referring to Philadelphia merchant John Craig, who was probably an individual distinct from the militia officer.
