Began his career as a Jesuit. Secretary to Maria Theresa; dismissed by Joseph ii (1782). Resided in Oberrad (near Frankfurt), Leipzig, Halle, and Berlin, where he was imprisoned for debt (1788). Published a pamphlet on the Austrian succession (1778) that went through nineteen editions, as well as several works on statecraft and the Catholic church.
Name also spelled Grossinger.
