Green, Jonas (1712-1767)

Printer.

Worked as a journeyman printer under Franklin, Andrew Bradford, and others in Boston and Philadelphia. Settled in Annapolis (1738) and became official printer of Maryland, printing Thomas Bacon’s Laws of Maryland (1765), among other works. Published Maryland Gazette (1745-67). Postmaster of Annapolis. Active in civic life and held several minor political offices. Supported opposition to the Stamp Act.

Born in Boston. Learned trade from father. Married Anne Catherine Hoof (1738). Fourteen children.
