Belgioioso, Ludovico Barbiano, Count de (1728-1803)

Soldier and diplomat.

After a successful military career, he was sent to London as Ambassador to St. James from the court of Vienna (1769-83). During his years there he developed a friendship with the King, and became acquainted with numerous scientists and writers.

After leaving England he served as vice- governor and Minister Plenipotentiary to the Low Countries, and was charged with putting into effect the disastrous reforms of Joseph II.
