Daughter of the cartographer Lewis Evans: goddaughter of Deborah Franklin.

Went to England after 1759. Franklin advanced her money to serve as a governess in the family of James Traill, the British consul- designate at Tunis (1766).

While in Tunis, she married David Barry, a captain in the Levant trade. Together they had five children.
