Came to Philadelphia with his cousin Peter Hendrick Striepers (1764). Involved in a lengthy dispute with Samuel Preston Moore about ownership of miscellaneous lands in and around Philadelphia. Advertised in Pennsylvania Gazette that they claimed only a few city lots, 100 acres in the Liberties and near Germantown, and about 5000 acres in three tracts elsewhere in Pa., on behalf of their grandfather’s heirs (1765). Appealed to Franklin to help him get his claims recognized (1785).
Scion of a mercantile family based in Kaldenkirchen, a German town on the Dutch border. Grandson of John Striepers (Jan Streypers), a merchant who invested in Pennsylvania lands (1682).
