Caillot, Joseph (1732-1816)

Famous French actor and Franklin’s neighbor at Passy.

Following his retirement from the Théâtre des Italiens in 1772, he continued to act and coach others in performances at the French court. In August 1780, he helped the Queen and the comte d’Artois perform in several plays at the Petit Trianon.

Husband of Blanchette Caillot, William Temple Franklin’s mistress. In 1785, she gave birth to Temple’s son Théodore, who died in infancy.
