Entered the court chancery (1751). Posted to Trieste as a commercial councillor (1769); commissioned to regulate trade between Austria, Italy, and the Adriatic. Traveled extensively to promote Austrian industry and trade. Government councillor (1785); privy councillor (1789).
Son of Austrian cabinet minister Johann Friedrich Edler von Eger. Ennobled as Freiherr von Eger (1796).
