Philadelphia physician and philanthropist.

Studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (B.M., 1781) and in Europe. Founded the Philadelphia dispensary (1786) and taught at the University of Pennsylvania (1792-96).

Quaker. Son of William and Abigail (Powel) Griffitts of Philadelphia.
