Captain in Pulaski’s Legion. A close friend and protégé of Pulaski.

Went to America (1776). Commissioned a lieutenant in the German battalion attached to Nathanael Greene’s division. Resigned his commission (December 1777).

Wounded at Savannah, went to France to recuperate, and sought to return to America. Asked for Franklin’s help in obtaining passage aboard the Buckskin. Franklin, explaining he did not have the authority, refused.
