Gilpin, Israel (1740-1834)

Delaware militia officer.

Moved to Christiana Hundred in Delaware (early 1760s) and subsequently to Wilmington. Commander of a company of soldiers from Newcastle County Public Grammar School and Wilmington (c. 1775). Captain and purchasing commissary in Delaware militia. Moved to Boone County, Kentucky, after Revolution.

Son of Joseph Gilpin of Concord, Pennsylvania. Married Elizabeth Hannum (1765). Evidently related to Quaker merchant Thomas Gilpin of Philadelphia.
