French explorer and naval officer.
Led two expeditions to the Indian Ocean. In 1774, he was court-martialed on a variety of charges and imprisoned in Saumur (May 1775). Released in August 1778, he armed the Comtesse de Brionne at Rochefort.
Author of Relation de deux voyages dans les mers australes et des Indes, faits de 1771 a 1774 (Paris, 1782), a work seized by order of the King, and Relation des combats et des événements de la guerre maritime de 1778 entre la France et l’Angleterre (1796).
