Captain in 78th British regiment (Fraser’s Highlanders). Paymaster of the British garrison at Quebec (c. 1760). Judge of the court of common pleas at Montreal (1764). Member of the legislative council at Quebec (1775). Arrested by General David Wooster, commander of the American forces in Canada, for refusing to hand over certain judicial papers. Deported to Albany and subsequently to Reading, Pennsylvania (1775-76). Appealed to Franklin to facilitate his return to Canada. Member of the Legislative Council of Lower Canada (1792).
