Nesbitt, Jonathan (c. 1730-1802)

Merchant.

Emigrated to Philadelphia (1747).

Apprenticed to Redmond Conyngham to learn the shipping trade. Made a partner in his employer’s business (1756). Conyngham & Nesbitt became one of Philadelphia’s premier mercantile firms.

Accompanied Gustavus Conyngham to Europe to buy military supplies and remained in Lorient for most of the war.

Born in Loughbrickland, County Down, Ireland.
