Evidently knew Franklin in England. Immigrated to Philadelphia (c. 1729) and worked as Franklin’s journeyman. Mason of St. John’s Lodge, Philadelphia (July 1731). Responded to South Carolina Assembly’s liberal inducements to a printer willing to settle in that colony; formed a partnership with Franklin, purchased printing supplies, books, and almanacs, and moved to Charleston. Printed the South-Carolina Gazette (January 1732- September 1733).
