Operated a stage and boat line between Philadelphia and New York. Delegate to the Stamp Act Congress (1765). Member of the New Jersey committee of correspondence. Colonel of the Burlington County militia. Judge of the Court of Common Pleas. Developed the settlement of Bordentown, New Jersey.
Son of Joseph Borden. Married Elizabeth Rogers; seven children, including Joseph, Jr., Mary, who married Thomas McKean, and Ann, who married Francis Hopkinson.
