Served under Benedict Arnold; wounded at Quebec (December 1775). Lieutenant colonel (March 1776), then colonel (January 1777) of the 1st New Jersey Regiment. Captured by the British (October 1780); exchanged.
Granted leave to travel to Europe on personal business (April 1783). Hoped to establish himself in business as an importer and retailer of French manufactures.
Son of Robert and Phebe (Hatfield) Ogden of Elizabethtown, New Jersey. Foster-brother of Aaron Burr.
