Barrett, Jean-Jacques de (1717-1792)

Secretary of the Neufs Soeurs masonic lodge.

Professor of Latin and director of studies at the École royale militaire. Translated the works of Cicero, Tacitus, and Virgil, and other classical authors. Also published an original work, De la Loi naturelle (2 vols., Paris, 1790).

Descended from a Scottish family that followed the Stuarts into exile.
