Vestryman of Hanover Parish, King George County (1723). Clerk of King George County (1723-42). Member of House of Burgesses (1736-55, intermittently). Justice of the Peace (1742).

Resided at Walsingham plantation on the Rappahannock. Married Martha Taliaferro (1714); had issue. His will reflects great concern for his grandsons’ education.
