Tousard, Anne-Louis de (1749-1817)

Soldier.

Went to America with Du Coudray (1776). Served at Brandywine, Germantown, Valley- Forge, and Monmouth.

Lost his right arm (1778). Promoted to lieutenant colonel with a pension of thirty dollars a month. Named a chevalier de Saint- Louis (1779).

Returned to France. Promoted to major in the Toul regiment of artillery. Sought a commission to return to America (1780).

Emigrated to America during the French Revolution. Served in the United States artillery (1795-1802). Joined General Leclerc at St.-Domingue (1802). Returned to France (1804).

A founding member of the Society of the Cincinnati.

Born in Paris.
