Dickinson, John (1732-1808)

Lawyer and statesman.

Studied law in England. Returned to America and set up practice in Philadelphia.

Served in the Pennsylvania Assembly (1762-65, 1770-76). Supported the proprietary party and thus often found himself in opposition to Franklin.

Member of the Continental Congress (1774-76, 1779-81). Represented Delaware at the Constitutional Convention (1787).

Born in Talbot County, Maryland. Married in 1770 to Mary Norris (daughter of Isaac).
