Entered his uncle George Grand’s banking firm. Succeeded his uncle as treasurer of the French court in Amsterdam and banker to the court of Sweden (1787).

Son of Rodolphe-Ferdinand and Marie (Silvestre) Grand; called “La Chaise” after a property belonging to his parents. Married (1790) and took his wife’s name, d’Hauteville.
