Began life as a dissenting minister and tutor to young gentlemen on the grand tour. Studied medicine at Leyden. Practiced as a surgeon and accoucheur in Ludlow. Physician to the Worcester Infirmary (1757-92). Met Franklin at Worcester (1760).
