M.P. for Tiverton (1756-76); family interested secured him the seat. Usually sided with the administration; seldom spoke in the House. Took detailed notes on the debates on the Stamp Act and the repeal of the Stamp Act.
Son of Sir Dudley and Anne (Newnham) Ryder. Educated at Clare College, Cambridge (B.A. 1753). Married Elizabeth Terrick (1762); eight children. Created Baron Harrowby (1776).
