Lawyer and public official. Son of Franklin’s friend, Jared Ingersoll.
Elected to Continental Congress (1780). Delegate to the Federal Constitutional Convention (1787). Attorney general of Pennsylvania (1790-99, 1811-17).
Ingersoll may have met the Franklins while he was on the continent (1776-78).
Born in New Haven, Connecticut. Married in 1781 to Elizabeth Pettit; three children survived to adulthood.
