Farmer general (1754-87).

Son of a Lyonnais merchant. Brother of the abbé Chalut, who also corresponded with Franklin.

Married Elisabeth Varanchan, chamber maid of the dauphines. Together, they adopted one daughter from the Enfants trouvés. Resided in St. Cloud, but also had a home on the Place Vendome.
