Went to England to study iron manufacturing (1760-61); toured the country with Samuel Powel. Returned to Philadelphia by late 1763.

Quaker. Son of Hugh and Mary (Calvert) Roberts of Philadelphia. Married Thomasine Mickle Fox (1772); had issue.
