Philadelphia physician.
Health officer of the port of Philadelphia (1729-41). An early practitioner of smallpox inoculation (c. 1730). Member of the Union Fire Company (1736). Physician to Pennsylvania Hospital (1751). Trustee of and subscriber to the Academy (1749). At his death, he donated his medical library and £350 to the Pennsylvania Hospital.
Son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Lloyd) Zachary of Boston. Brought up by an uncle, Mr. Hills of Philadelphia, after his parents’ death. Studied medicine in Europe (1723-26).
