Ordained in Church of Sweden (1768). Immigrated to America (1770). Pastor at Raccoon, New Jersey (1770-86) and later at Old Swedes’ Church in Philadelphia. Amateur scientist; member of the American Philosophical Society (1789). Published numerous essays on natural history, meteorology, and American manners and morals. Advocated prison reform and the abolition of slavery.
Son of Rev. Nils and Anna Maria (Nordstedt) Collin of Fundbo, Sweden. Educated at Uppsala. Married Hannah Fisler (1786).
