French naval officer.
Led the squadron that captured Senegal and Fort St. Louis (January 1779). Commanded the 74-gun ship Fendant, which participated in the comte d’Estaing’s unsuccessful attack on Savannah (July 1779), and spent November 20 to January 25, 1780 at Yorktown.
Participated in the Count de Grasse’s action in the West Indies (April 1782). Promoted to lieutenant general of the French Naval Forces (August 1782). Commanded the squadron that came to Boston in August 1782, and eventually transported Rochambeau’s army back to France.
