Distinguished himself as a soldier during the American Revolution. Treasurer of Philadelphia (1790-97).

Born in County Westmeath, Ireland. Moved to America between 1742 and 1745. Married Katharine Lawrence (d. 1770) in 1765 and Jane Nailor in 1772; both marriages produced children.
