Right Honoured Sir

Nantz Castle Novr. 14th 1779

I who is Confind here send these few lines to inform you of my Confinement. I Desart’d from a Merchantman belonging to Lorient on the 18th October last and came to Nantz on the 24th Ult. and ship’d with Capt. Smith he being bound to America there was four more came with me and having a Pass the went to the Agent for Subsistance and as I was not willing to go one of Cap. Smith men went with the Others and receiv’d a Guinea.

I hope your honour will look into this as we are all Accus’d of breaking out of Goal and as I am Innocent of breaking Goal or taking money from the agent hopes your Honour will take it into Consideration. And have been in American Service for some time and was taken with Capt. Nathl. Munre in a Sloop of ten Guns ten Swiwels and Suffer’d on board the said by receiving three wounds one on my Shoulder one through my thigh and one Carried away the best Part of my Arm(?). Your Petitioner humbly Prayeth you will releive him as I am Innocent. I am Your Loyal Subject to Command
